Bats Infest Home on Savannah's Westside

Bats… they may creep you out and maybe make you shudder a bit so what would you do if there was one in your house?

How about one hundred?

One Savannah Woman is learning the hard way…

Angela Thompson is all for parties but not the one going on in her attic.

“I did not invite them and I’ve got enough company and I sure didn’t need this you know what I am saying,” says Thompson with smile.

Thompson is referring to the hundred plus bats now taking up residence in her west 45th street home.

They’ve been spotted in her grandson’s bedroom, in the kitchen sink and most recently on her front door.

“You have to have a lot of patience, mine is kind of running out right now,” says Angela.

On a fixed income Thompson says she’s stuck….. so she called WSAV for help…. we were in turn able to link her up with critter control who agreed to waive their consulting fee.

“On the outside of the house you look for gaps like that corner and this corner down here. That stain is called a grease mark and that’s from their body oil and dirt constantly going in and out,” explains John Christensen of Critter Control.

Inside there was also proof the uninvited guests were making themselves comfortable.

“See this right here,” John says pointing to a dark pile of bat dropping.

So what’s the solution? Surprisingly you can’t kill them because they eat tons and tons of insects, they’re protected.

“You want to get them out without causing them harm and you do that by sealing any other spots they might go in and then putting up a one way valve where the bats can come out and cant get back in,” explains John.

But the service comes with a price tag, even at a discounted rate Thompson doesn’t know if she can afford it…

So while we were able to get Mrs. Thompson enough information to know what she needs to do and where the problem specifically is because she is on a fixed income, she is stuck.

So if anyone out there can help give News Three’s Alice Massimi a call in the newsroom.
